The ABBL
Founded in 1939, the ABBL is the oldest and largest professional association in Luxembourg’s financial sector.
We represent a wide and diverse range of members: not only banks, but also regulated financial intermediaries, investment firms, law firms, consultancies, auditors, payment and e-money institutions, market infrastructure providers, and more.
This diversity gives the ABBL a unique and inclusive voice—capable of speaking for the entire financial ecosystem, both at national and international levels. We act as a driver of dialogue, innovation, and responsible growth for Luxembourg’s financial centre.
We are firmly embedded in a broader economic and institutional ecosystem, collaborating actively with national authorities (such as the Luxembourg Government, CSSF, BCL, UEL, and the Economic and Social Council), and engaging with key European and international stakeholders including the European Banking Federation (EBF) and the European Payments Council (EPC).
To further our influence on EU regulation and ensure our members’ interests are heard in Brussels, the ABBL maintains a dedicated EU Affairs office in the European capital.

Our vision defines the positive impact we want to help create—not only for our members, but for society at large. It reflects a belief that the financial sector is a public good, serving both the economy and the European project. At the ABBL, we promote a financial centre that is useful, stable, and future-focused.

The ABBL’s mission outlines how we bring our vision to life. It guides our day-to-day work and long-term priorities:
- Sustainability means ensuring that financial services remain relevant, competitive, and resilient—today and tomorrow.
- Regulation builds trust and fairness. Clear rules foster confidence between clients and institutions and help level the playing field for all market participants.
- Innovation puts client needs at the centre, while enabling the financial industry to meet new challenges—digital, environmental, and operational.
- Responsibility reflects our commitment to ethical finance. It includes ESG, good governance, and consideration for our planet and society.
“Our ambition is to be a driving force of Luxembourg’s financial centre—a thought leader shaping today’s challenges and tomorrow’s trends.”
Sandrine Roux
Secretary General, ABBL
Looking ahead, the ABBL aspires to lead—not just represent. Our ambition is to be a visionary, constructive, and engaged partner within the financial ecosystem—helping Luxembourg’s financial centre adapt to technological, societal, and economic transformation.
We don’t just respond to change; we help drive and shape it.
